Ulnooweg Summer Solstice Run
2016 marked the inaugural year for the 5k Ulnooweg Summer Solstice Run.
For 2017, we’ve added a 10k and 2k Kid’s Run, along with finisher awards and a new medal! Want to walk? No problem! Walkers are welcomed in the 5k Run.
Please join our Running Community in celebrating healthy living and experiencing the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation.
The Run is meant to highlight two major causes:
The need for a healthy lifestyle As a major supporter of fitness activities in the Aboriginal communities, Ulnooweg is now taking a lead in continuing its support for promoting physical activity by sponsoring and organizing a major run in the Atlantic Aboriginal communities. Ulnooweg would like to promote this event as Atlantic wide by partnering with other communities and their physical/recreational leaders and offer its shirts, medals and overall logistics to promote the run in as many communities across Atlantic Canada as possible. Our goal is to get as many individuals, especially youth, to start of Aboriginal Day celebrations by being active.
To promote an atmosphere of healing As another element of the run, Ulnooweg is hoping to capture the spirit of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Report and promote an atmosphere of healing through inviting the non-Aboriginal community to participate in the Ulnooweg Summer Solstice Run. Each run will be required to be organized in a First Nations community in the beginning. For participants to run, they will be required to locate a First Nations community. The purpose of the invite will be to showcase the community and its people in a safe and healthy environment!
